At Stanbridge, our 6th- through 8th-grade Middle School division provides the academic program and social structure to ensure that students are successful in bridging the transition between childhood and adolescence. By incorporating a dedicated staff of core teachers, speech therapists, and counselors, Stanbridge is able to effectively address the particular challenges that students of this age encounter. Through the use of standards-based curriculum and monitoring progress through regular assessments, our Middle School students receive the individualized academic support needed to reach their potential. Experiential and social learning programs promote the development of self-confidence, the growth of self-awareness, and the building of friendships, further helping our students navigate the complicated world of adolescence.
Middle School students find themselves at a transitional place within Stanbridge Academy. No longer a young child and yet not quite a young adult, our 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-graders are definitely at a crossroads. This population is encouraged to recognize their personal strengths and challenges and to use a variety of creative approaches for problem-solving and critical thinking. Within the structured environment of Stanbridge, our Middle School students learn to set personal, behavioral, and academic goals. With a supportive community that fosters academic and social growth, our goal for our students is that they become self-advocates, lifelong learners, and engaged citizens. A standards-based academic program forms the core of the Middle School schedule and is differentiated according to the needs of each group. The Middle School program includes the following courses, along with day trips, overnight experientials, and both a hands-on outdoor gardening component and renovated science lab that help bring the curriculum to life:
